Flesherton -- the Gateway to Beaver Valley
|
|
The village of Flesherton, often referred to as "the Gateway to Beaver Valley", is beautifully set in the rural countryside and sits at the crossroads of Highway 10 and Grey County Road #4. Perfectly located for day-trippers, Flesherton offers welcoming hospitality which can be sampled at the village's small shops, the Bistro and Inn at Munshaw House and various artists' studios and galleries which are regularly opened to the public. Lovely B&Bs are also available for visitors wishing to spend the night. The Farmers' Market, held at the Arena each Saturday morning from May through October, and nearby scenic attractions such as Eugenia Falls, the Saugeen River and sections of the Bruce Trail, never fail to please.
Village history can be traced back to the mid-nineteenth century, when an influx of Scottish and Irish immigrants arrived to begin hard, new lives around this mill town on the Boyne River. Farm fields were literally cut out of natural forests and were often separated from each other by the split rail cedar fence for which Flesherton's Split Rail Festival is named.
Popular annual events include the Flesherton Antiques Shows, held in May and on Thanksgiving weekend each year; the abovementioned Split Rail Festival which celebrates our rural heritage every September; and October's Autumn Leaves Studio Tour.
The Chamber of Commerce Visitor's Information booth is open during the spring and summer at the intersection of Highway 10 and Grey Road #4. |
