The small community of Eugenia was first settled in the 1850s, when enterprising hopefuls flocked to Eugenia Falls during the "Eugenia Gold Rush".  Unfortunately, the only gold to be found was iron pyrite, "Fool's Gold", so no fortunes were made but the village harkens back to those days of old during the "Eugenia Gold Rush Days" held in early summer each year and featuring local artists and food vendors, car shows, a silent auction and activities for families and children. 

At its inception, the village included several mills along the Beaver River, some retail stores and businesses of the times such as a blacksmith's, shoemaker's and carpenter's, however none of those establishments remain today.  Today's community does enjoy it's own grocery store/bakery/take-out restaurant/LCBO outlet, "Top o' the Rock", as well as "The Flying Chestnut" restaurant, an upscale general store called "Eugenia Falls Emporium", hair/beauty salons, and various other small businesses.  The region, only 1 1/2 hours from Toronto, has become popular with cottagers who enjoy using Lake Eugenia for leisure activities and great fishing (Largemouth and Rock Bass, Perch, Sunfish and Bullhead Catfish).  The lake is man-made creation, initially created in the 1950s as a reservoir for a hydro-electric dam that still operates today.  The Beaver River flows steadily through the dam and continues down to beautiful Eugenia Falls, popular with hikers and trail-walkers who take advantage of the sections of the Bruce Trail which run directly through points of the village.
